Our Pastor

Roy Williams

I have been a pastor for more than forty years in Geauga County, serving New Mercies Community Church since November of 2015. I graduated from Johnson Bible College with a degree in preaching and Bible. Before entering the ministry, I was an engineer, graduating from Carnegie Tech with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. My love for people and faith that only God can solve our problems led me into ministry. Christianity is not about being "religious" but having a relationship with a loving Heavenly Father. The love we receive from God enables us to better relate to those around us. Jesus said all the law and prophets can be summed up in loving God and our neighbor. We would love for you to join our church family as we seek to find God's direction for our lives.

PREACHING Sermons are based of Scripture. The Bible is God's instruction book that teaches us how to live. A sermon is to help us understand Biblical truths in the context of everyday living. It is not enough to just know facts. We also need to know how those facts apply to the situations we face in our daily life.

WORSHIP Music is an important part of worship. We have a praise band that leads the musical portion of worship. The instruments enhance but do not overpower the voices when singing. We sing primarily contemporary music, but also value what hymn contribute to the worship experience. In many ways music is generational. Different types of music help the whole family (from youth to grandparents) come into God's presence in worship. Come and join us as we lift our voices in praise to God.

SALVATION Jesus loved us enough to come to earth to reveal who God is and pay the penalty for our sins. We respond to His love and surrender our life to His care. Calling Jesus Lord means He is to be the authority in our life. He is our Heavenly Father and we trust that He knows best how we can be all that He created us to be. The sacraments of communion and baptism help us remember that He died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the grave winning victory over death. We now live a faithful life because He is coming again for His own.

SERVICE Jesus said He did not come to be served but to serve others. Following His example, we use the gifts He has given us to help others. The Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. The truth of that statement is seen when we find satisfaction in helping others. We do not do good works to be saved, but to express our appreciation for the abundant life we find in Christ. Through the church we help people find opportunities to help others in our church family, community, and the surrounding area. We are involved in local and inner-city projects. Lives can only be changed through the power of God's love. Come and help us share God's love with everyone, especially the "least of these."
