About Us

Our Mission Statement

Acknowledging that there are many ways to understand and state the mission of the church of Jesus Christ during this “age of grace”, we choose to articulate our understanding of the mission of New Mercies Community Church in terms of the scriptural passages that have been called the “great commandment”, Matthew 22:37, Luke 10:27, and Mar 12:29. We see our mission as loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and loving our neighbor (Christian and pre-Christian) as ourselves. Our obedience to this commandment of biblical love will express itself as follows:

1. Because we love God… We obey the gospel of Jesus Christ by coming to Him in repentance and faith and by receiving the “gift of eternal life.” We entrust Him with our lives…all that we are, all that we have, and all that we ever will be. We did this in a decisiveway when we first believed the gospel, but we confess Jesus as Lord of our lives by doing it on a continuous, daily basis(jn 3:16, Lk 9:18-27, Rom 12:1-2). We commit ourselves to a life long, abiding relationship with the indwelling Christ which we nurture intentionally through prayer, Bible study, fellowship and worship (Jn 15:1-8)

We commit ourselves to spiritual growth toward maturity in Christ. We as disciples of Christ endeavor to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit which represents the character of Jesus Christ, experiencing as we do, an increasing freedom from the power of sin in our daily lives. We are being changed and conformed to His image as we behold His glory in our lives (Jn 15:1-8, Gal 5:22-23, Jn 8:31-32, II Cor 3:17-18, Rom 8:28-30).

2. Because we love our neighbors who are in Christ... We commit to practicing all the “one anothers” in the Scriptures such as “loving one another” (Jn 13:35), being kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving to one another” (Eph 3:23), “serving one another” (Gal 5:13), etc.

We believe this expression of love is best “worked out” in the context of a local church which is a voluntary and devoted community of people who have given their lives to Jesus Christ (Acts 2:42-47).

3. Because we love our neighbors still in the world (pre-Christian)… We commit to being, telling and living the good news of Jesus Christ and of encouraging all to become committed disciples of Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18-20).

We commit to ministering to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the poor, powerless and marginalized in the spirit of love demonstrated by the good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37.

We commit to praying for the advancement of God’s kingdom in all nations. Also, we commit to affirming and releasing those whom God has called to serve Him in the Broader Church (Acts 13:1-3, Mk 3:13-15).

Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, written word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Crist was God in Human flesh, at once fully divine and fully human.

We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right had of the Father, His present ministry of intercession, and His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that human beings were created in the image of God but rebelled against God and therefore fallen, lost, estranged from their creator, and in need of salvation. The reality of this sin in the human heart results in suffering, injustice, strife, and moral decay.

We believe that only those who, in repentance and faith, receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are converted and born again of the Holy Sprit. Thus they become children of God.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit who convicts of sin and enables the Christian to pursue a life characterized by personal holiness and faithful discipleship in obedience to Jesus Christ. The Christian life is maintained only through the filling of and walking in the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the church, the “body of Christ” is composed of all those of every nation who through saving faith have entered into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ. We further believe that local congregations of believers exist to equip the body of Christ- through such means as worship, teaching, fellowship and prayer-to spread the Gospel of Christ, to extend the influence of the Kingdom of god in the world; and to turn themselves outward to their local communities in evangelistic witness and compassionate service.

We believe that, in Jesus Christ, the way of love and reconciliation is revealed as God’s way for His people. Jesus taught us clearly that love to all people, including our enemies, is the scriptural command.

We believe in the resurrection of all people: those who are saved unto the resurrection of everlasting blessedness with the Lord in heaven, and those who are lost to eternal separation from God in hell.

We believe that, in the fullness of time, God will bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, the Lord Jesus Christ.
